“O
Bandido da Luz Vermelha'' is an amazing movie, released in 1968, captivating
from the initial credits. So, this movie catches the viewer's attention from
the beginning to end. The director is Rogério Sganzerla and the main actors are
- Paulo Villaça as the outlaw and Helena Ignez as Janete Jane, a prostitute
that the bandit develops a relationship. All have outstanding performances in
their roles. This drama/thriller uses radio speakers as movie narrators through
the plot. The movie is a criticism of a sensationalist media that has created
false rumors and stories - even a very current film - from flying saucers
invading the country to false police information, such as the discovery of the
identity of the red light bandit. The director and screenwriter Rogério
Sganzerla created a visually and aurally striking; a mix of references and
metalanguages. The movie narrates typical events of urban life in which
transits the thief interpreted by Paulo Villaça (freely inspired by the crimes
of famous bandit João Acácio Pereira da Costa, nicknamed “red light bandit”).
This movie is amazing, incredible, creative and innovative. Chaotic in the good
sense of the word. Watch, review and understand why it is a true “western about
the third world. ” The movie deserves a five stars rating.
